Homeward Bound

On our last morning in the Dominican Republic we tried a new breakfast setting. If we ever go back I hope we have breakfast there every morning.
You can chose to get your food at the giant buffet but then take it into one of the restaurants to eat.
We had wanted to try eating at the French place (Bordeaux) but ran out of time. So we took our breakfasts in to check it out.
It was lovely.

With the tropical garden behind and light blue and gold before and the AC blasting, this place had it all. It was quiet and had great accents.

I particularly loved my robins egg coffee mug. I’m a huge fan of blue cups and this one had great proportion and feel. 5 stars to the cup!

David has landed solidly on his go to breakfast. It is guava paste on oatmeal, a variety of random fruits and a yogurt. Each morning he tried a different juice. On breakfast one he stuck with me and the pineapple juice as the good Lord intended. Then he went off the ranch.
Breakfast two saw him brave the green juice (very healthy tasting). On breakfast three it was the purple juice (beet! Also very healthy). Hahaha
You can’t win them all.

Look how pretty this set up is ya’ll.

I was happy to see the little yellow iris bloom in the patio courtyard.
We had to leave at 1 so we packed up after breakfast and headed to the pool to hang out till 11.
We got to see Chris again. They are extending their stay in what promises to be a much quieter Dreams Flora.

David got to knock another cocktail off his list.
This one is the caipirinha, the cocktail of Brazil. It was a hit.

Then back to the room to clean up and put on airplane clothes.

Off to check out with our ( I am still delighted by its size) tiny luggage.

At check out they offered us snacks and more drinks (above The Mulata).
We waited for the shuttle mostly in the comfort of the lounge.
Then off for a chaotic ride through Punta Cana, crossing lanes and occasionally heading into oncoming traffic, to the airport.

The airport went well. We went back through the long hot line at Dominican customs, then into the big mall, that most airports are these days.  We picked up a few souvenirs at the duty free shop and ate a bit. I took my pill and we got out on time.

They called our group number and we went out under this awning thing to a bus that took us to these funhouse stairs that allowed us to board our dinosaur of a plane.

This plane got me home safe and sound so I hesitate to disparage it but…
It made a weird vibration noise the whole time, it had no seat back entertainment system, it was stuffy and the deceleration effort it put out on landing had me pitching forward against my seatbelt.
But like I said.
All good.
Home safe and sound and grateful to David for bringing a plug in charger and holding my hand.

We left slightly late but arrived more than slightly early. Every United flight this summer, all 6 of them, have arrived early.
My hat is off to them.
I don’t want to be on a plane and they got me off the planes in great time.

We had the same snacks as usual and the staff was great.

We got home and used David’s MPC app. My goodness everyone. Get this app! We flew through customs.
We were out in less than 5 minutes while the non MPC (mobile passport control) app folks were in a never ending line and settling in for a long dance with bureaucracy.
Basically, you fill out your immigration declarations (or lack thereof) on the app, and then take a picture of yourself so they have one for the day you are going to see them. Then you get in a short fast moving line and show the agent your passport and the app and you walk right through.
Saved us at least an hour.
We got the shuttle back to long term parking and fought and lost again the battle of the QR code. Paid the fee.
We drove home by way of Jimmie Cone.

I had promised myself a hot fudge Sunday as a reward for flying this year.
Behold the tired but triumphant Missy and her glorious hot fudge Sunday.

That was a cool trip.
